NASUWT Concert Band are pleased to announce that we have appointed Andrew Hall as our new Musical Director.
Upon taking up this position he said “I'm really looking forward to working with such an accomplished and ambitious band and I'm delighted to have been given the opportunity to build on the excellent work of John Bell. I am excited to be preparing the band for the upcoming Area competition and the prospect of a first class performance on the day.”
Andrew comes to the band with many years of top level playing and conducting experience. He originally started playing in 1978 with Lanchester Band before moving to Durham Constabulary Band in 1984. Andrew then moved to the well-known Ever Ready Band in 1988 on first horn then moved to solo horn in 1990 where he stayed until 2010 when he took a break from playing.
Andrews conducting career started in 1998 with Bearpark and esh Band, winning the area at their first attempt in 1999. In 2011 he took up residency at Ferryhill Band consolidating their position in the 3rd section and gaining promotion in 2017 to the second section. 2017 also saw his return to full time playing with the award winning Reg Vardy Band on solo horn.
Changes have been recently made within the band to ensure the future success of the band and several key positions have been filled to ensure that the band focuses on improving on its previous successes. This included appointing Andrew into the position of Musical Director at NASUWT Concert Band in January 2018.
Andrew Turnbull, a member of the Bands Leadership Team, said “We are delighted as a band to have managed to secure and appoint Andrew Hall as our new Musical Director. We feel his passion, knowledge and enthusiasm will allow the band to continue to build on our previous successes. We would also like to thank John Bell for his time and commitment in conducting our band and his continued support in moving the band forward.”
The band has a busy schedule as it works towards the Northern Area contest, with its first concert of the year at St Andrew’s Church, Washington on Friday 9th March 2018.
Further concerts and exciting collaborations are being discussed for the coming year and announcements will be made shortly.
